Our mission is to make government data accessible to every Utah resident, journalist, researcher, and public official. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use utahportal.org (the "Site"), how we use it, and your choices.
2. Information We Collect
a. Information You Provide
- Account registration: name, email address, and password when you create an account.
- Communications: messages you send us via the contact form or by email.
- Notification preferences: email address or phone number if you sign up for data-change alerts.
b. Information Collected Automatically
- Log data: IP address, browser type, referring URL, pages visited, and timestamps.
- Device data: operating system, screen resolution, and browser version.
- Cookies and local storage: session tokens, preferences (e.g., map layer state, splash-screen flag), and analytics identifiers.
c. Public Government Data
The Site aggregates publicly available records from Utah state and local government sources. This data does not originate from you; it is sourced from official government databases and is already publicly available.
3. How We Use Your Information

We implement industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, hashed passwords, row-level security on our database, and access controls. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children's Privacy
The Site is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.
